Roof terrace times in Buenos Aires

It’s Spring in Buenos Aires! Pretty much our favorite time of the year in this wonderful city. The sun becomes that little bit warmer, the Jakaranda trees show their true colors (a nice shade of purple) and the wrinkly and sun baked viejos get out their deck chairs and mate flasks for some seriously dedicated sun worshipping.

But the thing we love most about Spring (other than being able to go on Foto Rutas without our scarf and umbrella of course), is being able to rediscover Buenos Aires’s abundance of roof terraces. From your friend’s swanky rooftop terrace to your local bar’s grafiti covered roof bar, Buenos Aires is packed full of ‘roof’ located spaces to suit every mood and desire, whether that be taking photos, sunbathing, drinking, ‘asado-ing’ (not sure the word asado is a verb but it should be) or just doing nothing in the sunshine. Here are a few of Foto Ruta’s favorites….

    Palacio Borolo
Enjoy the fantastic view over Palacio Congresso and suck up bit of culture and history whilst you’re at it, at what is Latin America’s original skyscraper (with no resemblance to anything you’d find in Puerto Madero)

    Hotel Etoile
If you like a bit of luxury and want an alternative view of Buenos Aires’s city within a city, try the Hotel Etoile roof terrace. Great views over Recoleta Cemetary and a beautifully luxurious terrace. A little oasis in the sky

    Esquina Libertad
One of the more low key Palermo roof terrace bars. A nice chilled out atmosphere with reasonably priced drinks and food. A good summer hang out spot

    Torres del Parc, Recoleta
Private condo building close to the Malba with one of the best miradores in town. The only snag being you may need to befriend a resident befor gaining entry. Well worth it though!

    Post Street Bar
Check out some great grafiti whilst enjoying your fernet and coke on this great centrally located Palermo roof terrace

    Caracas bar
Just down the road from Post Street bar but catering to totally different type of clientele. Smarter, cocktail based fun can be had here (watch out for their irritating door policy, where, even on a quiet night they pretend to be ‘full’ making customers form a line outside)

    Green Tower II in Belgrano

And last but not least. A little bit closer to home. Green Tower II is one half of Foto Ruta’s very own apartment block roof. Spectacular views, a swimming pool  jacuzzi, sauna with WiFi,  a parilla to rival any other in the city. Foto Ruta’s office for the summer….!
